During a game over the weekend, Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington was ejected after a hard foul on Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham.
As Cunningham drove for a fast-break layup, Carrington chased her down and swiped across her face and neck area. It sent Cunningham hard to the floor. Following a review, the referees upgraded the play to a Flagrant 2 foul. Consequently, it resulted in Carrington’s automatic ejection.
Shortly after being tossed, Carrington posted “WHITE PRIVILEGE” on Threads and tagged the Indiana Fever. Carrington later clarified that her social media post was not directed at the foul call or Cunningham herself. She added it was a commentary on a lack of officiating consistency across the WNBA.
She also stated that her hard defensive play was unintentional and part of her aggressive style.

All eyes will be on these two when they match up again. Carrington was fined $1,000 for the Flagrant 2 foul but was not suspended, allowing her to play in the Chicago Sky’s subsequent game on August 10.
Under WNBA league rules, an upgraded Flagrant 2 foul carries an automatic $1,000 fine alongside the game ejection.
The Fever and Sky will hit the court again later this month.
