WATCH: Beloved FNC Host Makes Huge Life Announcement Live On Air
Steve Doocy, the wildly beloved co-host of Fox & Friends, has announced that he will be pulling back from his role on the show. In his announcement, Doocy clarified that he’s not retiring fully, but will be moving to a three-day-a-week schedule to balance personal concerns better
For context, Fox & Friends, which airs every weekday at 6:00 a.m., is one of the network’s most successful shows. The program, which has been running for over 20 years, features a rotating cast of hosts who discuss the program’s iconic curved couch.
In any case, Steve Doocy announced his partial retirement in a segment on May 1, 2025. Comparing his work to that of a Dunkin’ Donuts employee, the famous commentator jokingly explained his reasoning. Doocy said, Do you remember that 80s Dunkin Donuts commercial where the alarm clock goes off at 3:30 a.m. to make the donuts? Well, for the last 30 years, when my alarm clock goes off at 3:30, it wakes up my wife, Kathy, she always says it’s time to make the donuts.”
Explaining his morning routine, he stated, “And I say, you’re right, it’s time to make the donuts. And I get up and I go to work. You know how many mornings my alarm has gone off at 3:30? Well, according to AI, 6828 times, and that, ladies and gentlemen, is a lot of donuts. It is a great job, but the hours suck.”
Announcing the changing schedule, Doocy said that he would be stepping back from his role in a significant way. The Fox and Friends veteran said, “Which brings me to this public service announcement, after decades of getting up at 3:30 and driving into New York City in the dark. Today is the last day I will host this show from the couch. I’m not retiring. I’m leaving the show. I’m still a host, but it’s time for a change. So from now on, I am working three days a week.”
Reassuring his audience, the beloved broadcaster promised he wasn’t fully retiring. He explained, “I will continue to join the couch crew for commentary. You’ve trusted me for all these years, and don’t worry, you’ll still hear my voice and my opinions loud and clear, despite whatever seasonal pollen is affecting me. Today, I looked up, and it’s tree pollen. There is one downside: I have a lot of friends in this skyscraper. I’m going to miss seeing them in person, the security guys, the Cafe crew, especially the hair and makeup team, because they are geniuses at what they do.”
Winding down his monologue, the longtime FNC host gave details about when he would return to work. Doocy said, “That’s why it makes it hard. Just know you will still hear from me every day when I play Wordle with you, as soon as Chris Chula picks the word and then Ted says he solved it in two. Ted is a liar… And as for the cast on the couch, whom I love and adore. If this were the last day I’d ever work with you again, the waterworks would be flowing. You know me, but after a little vacation, I’m going to be back on the show via the magic of television.”
Concluding his remarks, Steve Doocy recounted a conversation at an airport with a fan of his show. The commentators said, “A lady at the airport said to me on Monday,’ Steve, I didn’t see you on the couch this morning, and I told her that from now on, I was working three days a week. And she said, ” That’s great.” You’ve been there a long time. And she’s right, because once again, according to AI, I have hosted 31,607 hours of live TV on Fox News. You got your 10,000 in. That’s right. You know what? I’m not done yet. I will be back in 10 days when it’s time to make the donuts.”
“Catch the emotional announcement here:
Reacting to the sudden announcement, President Donald Trump congratulated Doocy on his well-earned retirement. He said, “Hi, Steve, it’s your all-time favorite president. I just think you’re a fantastic guy. You’ve always treated me fairly – sometimes a little more fairly than other times, but that’s okay.”
