Lincoln Kienholz got his first real audition on Sunday night in Nashville. Louisville’s new starting quarterback needed every bit of it against a ranked opponent.
The Ohio State transfer arrived at Louisville after years of waiting behind Julian Sayin in Columbus. Sunday marked his first real chance to lead a team on a national stage.
Kienholz delivered in dramatic fashion, throwing for 307 yards and adding 69 more on the ground.
He rallied Louisville from a 38-24 fourth-quarter deficit, connecting with Lawayne McCoy on a 54-yard touchdown before running one in himself to tie the game late.
The Broadcast Found A New Face In The Crowd

None of it was enough. Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss answered with a sensational second half of his own, and kicker Lucas Carneiro sealed a 41-38 win with a 48-yard field goal as time expired.
While Kienholz handled business on the field, ABC’s broadcast introduced viewers to someone in the stands. Cameras identified Kacy Kienholz, Lincoln’s mother, as cameras panned across the crowd during the game.

“I knew this was going to be a thing,” one user wrote in the comments.
“Zach Wilson right now,” one fan joked.
“Would,” another fan confessed.
Kienholz’s path to Louisville wound through a standout high school career in Pierre, South Dakota. He set the state’s all-time passing record at T.F. Riggs High School, then signed with Ohio State as a four-star prospect.
He won a national championship there in 2024, albeit as a backup, before entering the transfer portal in January and landing with Jeff Brohm’s Cardinals.

Moments like Sunday’s graphic have become a recurring theme across college football broadcasts this season.
Fans similarly zeroed in on LSU offensive lineman Bo Bordelon’s mother after she resurfaced in a viral clip earlier this summer. NFL broadcasts have followed a similar pattern, including when Jordyn Tyson’s mother drew attention during this year’s draft coverage.
Louisville will look to bounce back next week after falling to 0-1 in Brohm’s fourth season leading the program. Kienholz’s second-half performance, penalties and early jitters aside, gave Cardinals fans plenty of reason for optimism going forward.
Fans will likely be on the lookout for his mom in their next game.
