Harrison Butker Left Out Of Travis Kelce’s Wedding Gets Notable Response From Teammates At Training Camp
Harrison Butker walked back onto an NFL field this weekend carrying more than just a helmet. He carried the weight of a locker room controversy that had simmered for over a month.
The Kansas City Chiefs kicker delivered a statement performance in Saturday’s preseason opener against the Rams, going 3-for-3 on field goals, including a 59-yard bomb through the uprights.
It marked Kansas City’s first game since Travis Kelce married pop superstar Taylor Swift in a lavish Madison Square Garden ceremony on July 3. Nearly every Chiefs player received an invitation. Butker, notably, did not.

The absence didn’t stay out of the conversation for long. An anonymous Chiefs player told the Daily Mail that the wedding invite list ignited genuine tension inside the locker room, describing “snippy text messages” flying through various group chats among teammates.
“It’s really their wedding and I understand why they wouldn’t have invited him,” the player said. “But there’s some difference of opinion. Lots of texts are going around the team, and some people who are close to Harrison feel like he was snubbed.”
According to the source, most players received individual invitations rather than a blanket team invite, which only deepened the perception that Butker’s exclusion was intentional.
“If Harrison had really wanted to come, he probably could have,” the player added. “But they’re not close, so he wasn’t going to go, even if he had been invited.”
The same source admitted a faction of the roster seemed to be feeding off the drama, texting Butker directly just to gauge his reaction. He never responded.
Butker and Kelce have shared a locker room since 2017 and won three Super Bowls together, but their relationship has grown visibly distant since Butker’s controversial 2024 commencement speech at Benedictine College, where he called Pride Month “a deadly sin” and suggested women should consider prioritizing being a “homemaker.”
Kelce publicly disagreed with the remarks at the time, a rift that has clearly lingered.

Whatever tension exists off the field didn’t show up on Saturday. Butker accounted for all nine of Kansas City’s points in the loss, and teammates swarmed him after his 59-yard attempt split the uprights, tapping his helmet in celebration.
It’s the kind of moment that has followed Kelce and Swift’s union everywhere this offseason, whether the storyline involves Kelce proudly showing off his wedding ring at Chiefs training camp or outside voices weighing in on the marriage itself.
For now, Butker appears focused on football rather than gossip. But with training camp underway and a full season of shared locker rooms ahead, the tension between two of Kansas City’s most recognizable players doesn’t figure to disappear anytime soon.
