Gabbie Marshall announced the death of her dog, Shiloh.

Caitlin Clark‘s journey to stardom hasn’t stopped her from showing care for those close to her, as despite recovering from injury and pursuing a spot on Team USA for the upcoming World Cup, she made time to support a former teammate.
Gabbie Marshall, Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes teammate and longtime friend, recently shared heartbreaking news about the death of her beloved dog, Shiloh.

“Yesterday, Shiloh passed away in a tragic accident,” Marshall wrote, alongside several photos of her dog. “We all are fine, and nobody is hurt.

“The love Shy brought into myself and @gabbie.marshall’s lives can’t be comprehended from an outsider, but if you know either of us, you know we lit up like a light at even the mention of Shy’s name.”
The loss struck hard, and Clark was among the first to offer comfort, after going through the same situation herself as she responded with a heartfelt comment: “Love you, guys.”
She herself endured a similar loss earlier this year when her dog Bella passed away. At the time, she wrote, “We are gonna miss you puppy gave us so many good memories.”
Clark‘s connection with her pets is deep, reflected even in a custom player edition sneaker named after her canine friend.
And it wasn’t just the Indiana Fever star offering words of comfort either as the Iowa squad rallied around Marshall as well, proving the team’s bond extends beyond basketball, providing emotional support during difficult moments.
Kate Martin posted, “I love my shy shy baby girl so much,” and Jada Gyamfi added, “My first niece, love you forever, shy shy booty butts.”
After her Iowa career, Marshall pursued a master’s in occupational therapy at UNC, while Clark and Martin have advanced in the WNBA.
Kylie Feuerbach and Gyamfi remain at Iowa, with the squad remembering their Cinderella run to the 2023/24 title game, where Clark averaged 31.6 points and 8.9 assists, demonstrating her leadership and skill on the court.
What’s next for basketball’s women stars? Clark weighs in
Clark has emerged as a key figure in expanding women’s basketball, driving the WNBA’s visibility and popularity alongside young stars like Angel Reese and Paige Bueckers. Her influence extends globally, unmatched by many peers.
Clark‘s success on and off the court demonstrates the potential for the sport to grow in both business value and cultural impact. She believes that increasing exposure, especially through televised games and international appearances, is vital to inspiring young athletes worldwide.
“Yeah, I just think more and more opportunities,” Clark said in an interview with TelfairTong on YouTube. “And I think that’s exactly what’s happening.
“Because there’s more and more young girls that love basketball, or love another sport, and believe that they can be good at it.
“The more we can be on TV, and the more people can come and watch us and buy a ticket. Or we can go to places like China, or wherever it’s at, globally, to help grow the game and allow people to see us play basketball.
“I think it’s a really important and powerful thing.”
