Politics and the NBA have not always gone together until recently.

Legendary NBA coach Phil Jackson has kept a pretty low profile since stepping away from coaching. The NBA champion coach spends most of his time in the serene surroundings of Montana.

At 79, he’s regarded as one of the all-time greats. Jackson has an impressive legacy that includes leading the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers to 11 championships. His storied career includes those unforgettable three-peats with icons like Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen.

It’s been over a decade since we last saw him on the sidelines, with his final stint being with the Lakers in the 2010-11 season. However, Jackson recently got everybody with surprise with his latest social media posting on April 23, 2025.

He took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a video of a protester inside Trump Tower. This individual was arrested after spray painting the tower’s sign during what was reported as a climate change protest.

The protester explained his actions, saying, “I did this because I am an American. It is my duty to stand up for my country and my Earth when a government becomes destructive of our right to life,” according to Newsweek.

The protest is believed to have been organized by Extinction Rebellion, a well-known environmental activist group.

Soon after the baffling post, fans on social media got confused about what Jackson had to do with the political matter. They kept on reeling over the post in the comments.

While the NBA legend rarely posts on his social handles, his last three posts came in the three consecutive days.

However, this wasn’t Jackson’s only recent post. Just a day ago, he also shared some thoughts on the NBA playing games during religious holidays. Phil questioned the league’s choice to schedule events on sacred days like Christmas and Easter.

Seeing his recent activity on his socials, fans on the internet are clueless about the relevance of the post.

“Did you get hacked coach?” a fan commented.

“Is Phil the first coach with CTE?” another fan asked.

“Amazing how a simple post with no added comments can send so many people into an emotional spiral,” a third one added.

“This really Phil Jackson bro??” another one wrote.

“He has lost it lol,” a user said.

However, whether or not it coincides with the social media users, it’s always nice to see NBA greats still keeping themselves active.
