On New Year’s Eve 2022, 17-year-old Maggie Dunn and 16-year-old Caroline Gill were tragically killed when a police officer ran a red light in pursuit of a suspect near Addis, Louisiana. The officer’s vehicle collided with the girls’ car, instantly taking both of their lives and severely injuring Maggie’s brother, who miraculously survived.

The heartbreaking accident occurred just blocks from the Addis Police Department. The officer responsible later pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter and one count of negligent injury, resulting in a prison sentence.

🎵 John Foster Turns Grief Into Music

Among those closest to Maggie was John Foster, a Louisiana native and LSU biology student, who is also a rising contestant on American Idol. During his initial audition, Foster expressed his dream of becoming a “singing oncologist” to combine his love for medicine and music.

His charm, Southern roots, and powerful audition turned a hesitant “no” from judge Luke Bryan into a resounding “yes.”

After making it into the Top 20, Foster returned to the Idol stage to perform an original song titled “Tell That Angel I Love Her” — written in honor of Maggie Dunn and Caroline Gill.

The performance was raw and emotional, with Foster visibly crying as he sang. At the end, he whispered, “I love you, Maggie.” Judge Carrie Underwood, touched by the moment, asked about the dedication.

Foster explained the song was written for Maggie, one of his closest friends, and Caroline, a friend he wished he’d known better. He then pointed to the audience, where both girls’ families were seated, visibly moved.
