It was a pretty awkward affair.

Daniel “Booby” Gibson dropped names, including his own, after he was pulled over during a routine traffic stop this week.

The former Cleveland Cavaliers star played alongside LeBron James, so he’s pretty well known. He identified himself to an officer, who already knew who he was.

The former shooting guard played for Cleveland from 2006 to 2013, averaging 7.8 points, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 rebounds per game.

As for his interaction with the cop, it was pretty friendly. Gibson had been pulled over because his taillights were off. He explained that the vehicle was new, and he thought they were on because he had them set to “auto.”

They both laughed it off, and he slipped the Cavs in there again, likely to ensure he didn’t get a ticket. The officer let him know he wouldn’t write him up, but just needed to get him to turn his lights on.

Things took an awkward turn once the lawman ran his license. It was discovered that Gibson had an outstanding warrant from 2022 for a $225 speeding charge.

The seemingly good-natured policeman was even nervous about telling the former Cavs player about the warrant.

He eventually mustered up enough courage.

Booby said he thought his lawyer had taken care of it. Unfortunately, that was not the case.

The officer explained that he didn’t have a choice in the matter, as it was beyond his control.

The former NBAer claimed that he’s usually treated differently in the area “because of all the things I’ve done in the community” and should probably move back to Houston.

He then demanded the officer’s name and badge number.

“Every time I’ve ever been arrested out here, or pulled over, every officer has allowed me to go home and handle the stuff from home,” he said.

He then mentioned that he was hanging out with the mayor earlier that night.

“So, the fact that I don’t get no consideration for everything I do out here just tells me, like, why am I doing it? It just makes no sense to me to be trying to take care of the community when I get treated like s**t,” he said.

Booby has indeed played a role in the community and continues to help youth following his retirement. But that hardly matters when it comes to traffic fines, especially when there’s a warrant involved.

According to TMZ Sports, he paid the fine earlier this week.

It should be water under the bridge now. It’s not like he’s facing the charges another former Cavalier, Damon Jones, is up against.
