NFL Announces Rashee Rice Suspension Decision After 30-Day Jail Sentence
Rice faces a tough situation.
Rashee Rice received positive news on the disciplinary front. NFL insider Ian Rapoport does not expect further league action against the Chiefs wide receiver. The update comes after Rice served 30 days in jail this summer.
Rice violated probation by testing positive for THC in May. That triggered an immediate 30-day sentence tied to his 2024 high-speed crash case. He was released in mid-June.

Rapoport explained the league’s view during a recent appearance.
“First of all I’m going to go to the disciplinary part, because for Rashee Rice he was already disciplined essentially for what he was in jail for; that was a probation violation. He had already been disciplined for that infraction, had already missed time for that. So I don’t expect from my understanding anything new there disciplinary-wise.” Rapoport said.
Rice previously served a six-game suspension at the start of the 2025 season for the multi-vehicle crash. He remains on five years of probation from that case. The domestic allegations from his former partner also produced no NFL discipline earlier this year.
Rashee Rice Looks Ahead to Full Season Availability

The wide receiver described his time behind bars as a learning experience and reality check. He focused on knee rehab while incarcerated and said he is locked in on the present. The one-time Super Bowl champion shared many details about his jail stay, including what Patrick Mahomes did for him during that time.
“I mean, I had times where I could talk to my trainers. Times where me and Pat (Mahomes), during the summer, were just grinding in the facility, just me and him and the trainers,” he told reporters.
Rice enters a contract year as the Chiefs’ top receiving threat when healthy. He has shown big-play ability in limited action over the past two seasons. With no new suspension expected, he should be available for the full 2026 campaign.
The offense gains a major boost if he stays on the field. Kansas City opens the season against the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football.
