TEARFUL GOODBYE: Savannah Guthrie announces she’s taking another weeks-long leave of absence from Today
SAVANNAH Guthrie has announced she’s taking another extended leave of absence from Today.

“Yes, we’re about to do it, guys! I’m headed over to shoot Wordle over the next few weeks,” Savannah said.
“We’re going to shoot the whole season, and we’re super excited. We cannot wait for everyone to see it.”
Sheinelle Jones chimed in and said that when Wordle first came out and it hit the Today host pals, she remembered texting with Savannah about it, and how nice it was to see it come “full circle.”
Craig Melvin then called Savannah “the perfect host,” before adding, “We’ll miss you.”

The show will reportedly be filmed in Manchester, England, and is expected to air in early 2027.
Savannah first announced back in May on the morning show that she would be taking on the new role of game show host, alongside Wordle’s executive producer, Jimmy Fallon.
Savannah expressed her gratitude to Jimmy and NBC for their patience, allowing her the time she needed before starting this new chapter following the tragic abduction of her mother, Nancy.
In response, Jimmy showed his full support. “We couldn’t do it without you,” he said, adding, “You are fantastic!”
The new venture is a TV adaptation of the hit game Wordle, where players will go head-to-head in a special arena for cash prizes, with the 54-year-old Savannah taking on hosting duties.
The concept actually started taking shape last year when Savannah visited The New York Times headquarters to get a behind-the-scenes look at her self-described daily gaming obsession.
During a discussion about the trip, her Today colleague Carson pitched the idea of turning the puzzle into a full-scale game show, which Savannah immediately championed.
Following the official announcement in May, Savannah took to Instagram to share her excitement.
She thanked NBC, The New York Times, and Jimmy, writing, “Happy to have something joyful to share,” after her beloved mother’s abduction from her Arizona home in February.
