The broadcaster broke his silence to issue a formal apology, stating that he “owns this completely.” In addition, the statement directly addressed his career status, as CBS Sports had placed him on indefinite leave following the incident.
First, Romo explained that multiple severe back surgeries prematurely ended his playing career. As a result, he was left dealing with constant and debilitating pain. This severe pain created a dependency on prescription pain medications.
Ultimately, his intense efforts to safely get off those medications triggered an over-reliance on alcohol.
