At this point, you can no longer deny the fact that many inside the WNBA are not fans of Caitlin Clark.
Clark was named the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year after a record-breaking rookie season with the Indiana Fever. Clark, who has been out for the season due to injury, received a surprise phone call from WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert during a team practice, with her teammates present to celebrate.
In 2025, things changed drastically.
Paige Bueckers proved she was a star in her rookie season after being selected by the Dallas Wings with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft.
Bueckers averaged 19.2 points per game and earned an All-Star nod. Although her team did not play well, she was outstanding.
On Tuesday, her performance earned her the 2025 WNBA Rookie of the Year award.
Bueckers found out about her win in a much different way than Caitlin Clark.
WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert surprised Bueckers before her appearance on “The Jennifer Hudson Show” on Tuesday.
“The WNBA gave Caitlin Clark a phone call for ROTY. Paige Bueckers got a whole surprise party 🤔,” a post said on X.
Earlier this year, Bueckers became incredibly annoyed when presented with yet another question about Caitlin.

Caitlin Clark was supposed to follow up on the first season with another one in 2025. Unfortunately, that did not work out that way.
Clark, the 2024 No. 1 pick, had been limited to 13 games this season and hadn’t appeared since July 15 when she suffered a right groin injury right before the All-Star break. It would cause her to miss the three-point contest as well as the game.
Clark missed zero games at Iowa and her rookie season combined from 2020 to 2024. This season with the Fever: She’s missed 31 games.
The Indiana Fever guard has been out with various injuries, which have also prevented her from participating in the playoffs this year.
The former Iowa star averaged 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 5.0 rebounds in 13 games in her second season in the WNBA.
