Victor Wembanyama’s Recent Growth Spurt Could Create A Major Challenge
Victor Wembanyama’s new height might send unintended ripples to the basketball world.
Most boys reach their adult height by the age of 16. Some may grow more until they hit 20. Apparently, Victor Wembanyama’s genes did not get that memo, as he has reportedly grown taller again this offseason.
Let’s rewind things a bit. When Wembanyama was 16, he was already 7 feet 2 inches tall. When he was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs in 2023, the team officially measured him at 7 feet 3.5 inches without shoes. He had an approximately 8-foot wingspan.
Those measurements immediately put him as one of the tallest NBA players in the 2020s. And no doubt he put his height to good use, too. The 22-year-old has already issued a stern warning to the rest of the league after failing to win the title last June. Yes, he was close to winning it all at such a young age.

Before the 2025-2026 season started, the Spurs officially listed the French phenom at 7 feet 4 inches. However, insiders have continually argued that he was much taller than San Antonio has led us to believe.
Fast forward to today, and it has now been revealed that Victor Wembanyama has grown taller again this summer.
“Victor Wembanyama reportedly grew another two inches this offseason and is now said to be 7’7” with an 8’3” wingspan,” according to a popular basketball account on X.
If the reports are true, then Wemby’s new height and wingspan put him in the likes of former giants Gheorghe Muresan and Manute Bol, all of whom were 7 feet 7 tall. The major difference is that neither was an MVP candidate during their respective careers.
While Wembanyama has yet to win one, he will be inside that conversation, at least for the next decade or so.
And an 8-foot 3-inch wingspan? He can now dunk the ball without ever jumping. Good luck stopping that.

There’s no doubt that the San Antonio Spurs are one of the best teams in the league. Plus, they are a young squad, which means their title window remains fully open for years to come.
Victor Wembanyama is already considered one of the best players in the entire world, not just the NBA. People have never seen anybody with that towering presence dominate the game with ease. If he can retain his mobility despite gaining additional inches, then nobody in the league can stop him one-on-one.
He’s a fierce competitor, too, getting under the nerves of his opponents.
The main issue with him right now is his strength. He has done a ton of work in that department before, but at 22, his body isn’t there yet. Give it a couple more years for him to fill out his frame a bit, and it’s game over for everybody.
The Spurs truly have a once-in-a-lifetime player at their disposal. Nobody on earth who stands at 7 feet 7 inches can play all five positions on the court, except Wemby, of course. He’s an alien, at least that’s what they say.
