It was a night of celebration for the Indiana Fever, who just bagged the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup and a cool $500,000 prize pool. They did it without Caitlin Clark, too. But the postgame buzz didn’t just center on the victory. Instead, it shifted to a sideline moment that fans didn’t take kindly to, an awkward interview exchange involving star forward Aliyah Boston.
Right after helping the Fever knock off the Minnesota Lynx, Boston stood in front of reporters, ready to soak in the moment. Then came that question: “How will you spend your prize money?”
Before Boston could say a word, Clark, who didn’t even play, stepped in and shut it down. The message was clear: Nope, not going there.

That quick save from Clark didn’t go unnoticed. WNBA fans on social media weren’t exactly thrilled with the line of questioning.
“That’s a strange question. As if she’s never had money before,” one fan wrote on X.
Another chimed in, “I think AB tipped Clark that she didn’t want to talk about how she’s going to spend her money.”
“Clark saved her teammate from having to answer a personal question…. Every answer would have been wrong,” a third fan added.
The moment sparked debate about boundaries in sports interviews. Sure, players are used to media buzz. But fans felt this one crossed a line.
Boston didn’t seem rattled, though. She kept her cool and let her game do the talking. With Clark out, she dropped 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. She’s been averaging 15.9 points and 8.2 boards this season. Numbers don’t lie.
Fever head coach Stephanie White had nothing but praise for the team’s chemistry. “You’ve got to have the confidence in yourself and the confidence in your teammates to allow someone else to step up in those moments,” she said. “And I think that this group is learning that.”
Next up for the Fever is a test against the Las Vegas Aces. Last time they met, Boston dominated with 26 points and 10 rebounds.
One awkward moment won’t define the night. The Fever won a title, proved their depth, and had each other’s backs.
