That reaction turned out to be a preview of what came next. Texas capped its opening touchdown drive, and the broadcast then cut to Trump on the videoboard.

“Aww he looks like a happy boy with all those people looking at him,” offered a third.
“The loudest cheers in Neyland history and it’s not even for a touchdown,” a fourth claimed.
Reception Contradicted An Earlier Push To Boo Him

The cheers stood in contrast to what some fans had promised days earlier. A group of Tennessee supporters had organized plans on social media to boo Trump when he appeared on the videoboard.
One fan had vowed to “boo him out of the stadium,” and another had drawn a comparison to Texas fans booing Senator Ted Cruz during a prior GameDay visit. Saturday’s broadcast showed no sign that either effort had materialized in any noticeable way.
Trump has attended nine college football games during his time in office, including three national championships.
Saturday’s trip continued a pattern of overwhelmingly friendly Southern crowds greeting him at similar events. He traveled to Knoxville with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Senator Bill Hagerty, and Representative Tim Burchett, according to Fox News. Senator Marsha Blackburn, one of Tennessee’s own, joined him for the broadcast moment that fans are still discussing.
The visit came as Trump faced weak approval numbers heading into the midterm elections, roughly six weeks away. None of that broader context showed up inside Neyland Stadium on Saturday.
Tennessee has voted reliably Republican in recent elections, and Saturday’s crowd reflected that lean throughout the visit. For at least one afternoon in Knoxville, though, the videoboard moment became the story fans kept talking about, long after Texas and Tennessee settled into the game itself.
