Like many other franchises, the Indiana Fever are priortizing their top players to protect them from the expansion draft and targets in the free agency. Incidentally, Kesey Mitchell makes the cut in both lists. HC Stephanie White even keeps Mitchell as her top priority in the free agency, with the franchise willing to do everything to secure her services.
Amid all this, the player never openly spoke about her choices, but hinted at the aspects that would impact her decision. Now, amid all the free agency mess, the 30-year-old shared a post that creates even more suspense.

Kelsey Mitchell Shares Cryptic Post Amid Free Agency Uncertainty
There were many contributors to the Indiana Fever’s dream run in the 2025 season, but the two players who stood out in the season were Mitchell and Aliyah Boston. In her podcast, Boston praised Mitchell as the WNBA’s best 1-on-1 player, which is why the side is looking to keep its prized asset on the roster.
But there are no certain answers from the player’s end who recently shared a cryptic post making a bold statement about favors. In the post, she wrote, “I don’t need nobody holding my hand until and unless they really wanna hold it. no favors. no handouts. iykyk.”
While there is no direct mention of the recipient of the message, the players’ use of an acronym at the end is a clear signal to the intended ones. Fans, though, are making numerous assumptions about the post with mixed reactions.
While her message highlights her ability to handle the situation on her own, the Fever team is looking to leverage a strong partnership between her and Caitlin Clark as a backcourt pairing and Aliyah Boston as the forward anchor. The player has the utmost respect for her guard partner, and she openly expressed it in a recent interview.
Kelsey Mitchell Praises Caitlin Clark
Many speculated that a rift existed between KM and the former Iowa star, with their star powers clashing within the Fever franchise. Even though the duo worked well as a team in the 2024 season, many highlighted the CC-AB connection more, sidelining the Fever’s most trusted guard.
But the veteran guard silenced all the buzz and even praised the 2024 rookie for her impact on the game. In an interview, she said, “When something that big or someone that big who has that much impact comes into something, there are a lot of adjustments that the people have to make. The biggest part I respect about Caitlin (Clark) is that she was never bigger than the program. She wasn’t trying to take over.”
Clark also showed mutual respect for her senior guard and even lauded her performances during the historic 2025 season. Fans would be hoping to hear positive news from the cryptic message Mitchell posted recently.
