NFL Fans Can’t Believe Where Patrick Mahomes Landed On The Top 100

Mahomes’ ranking left fans puzzled.

Patrick Mahomes has reached the top 20 of the NFL’s “Top 100 Players of 2026,” but the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback’s spot has left many fans scratching their heads.

The NFL placed Mahomes at No. 18 on its annual player-voted list. The lower-than-usual spot comes after a rough 2025 campaign for the three-time Super Bowl champ, where he missed three games due to injury, went just 6-8 as a starter, and put up career-low numbers across several key passing categories.

Still, the ranking did not push Mahomes anywhere close to the bottom half of the list. That has raised many issues among fans, especially when they compare his spot to Lamar Jackson’s ranking.

Fans Question What the List Really Measures

Several fans questioned the logic behind the rankings. They pointed to the gap between Mahomes and Jackson as a main reason for their frustration.

“Eighteen feels like the number they picked specifically to start an argument. Nobody agrees where these rankings actually sit and that is clearly the entire point of publishing them, one fan wrote.

Another Jackson supporter said, “I was told the list was based off last season when Lamar was ranked 69th.”

A third fan added, “Lamar is 69 but Mahomes is 18 lmao nobody knows what this list is based on.”

Others took the opposite view. They argued that voters should consider a player’s overall ability rather than focus only on one difficult season.

“Best QB in the sport at 18 I can’t,” one fan wrote.

Mahomes landed at No. 18, just behind Colts running back Jonathan Taylor. It’s the first time since he became a full-time starter that he has dropped out of the top 10, after previously topping the list in 2021 and 2023 and regularly sitting in the top five.

He’s the fourth Chief to be in the list this year, joining Creed Humphrey (94), Travis Kelce (79), and Chris Jones (43).

While a dip in his stats helps explain the drop, seeing him ranked behind quarterbacks like Josh Allen, Matthew Stafford, and Drake Maye is a bit painful. Still, list or no list, there isn’t another quarterback Chiefs fans would rather trust with the game on the line.

The NFL announced Mahomes at No. 18 on Aug. 18. The ranking now gives him another reason to prove his critics wrong when the 2026 season begins.
