Derek Carr recently opened up about a deeply personal moment that shook his family.
Speaking during a guest sermon at a church in Las Vegas, the New Orleans Saints quarterback revealed that his wife, Heather, suffered a miscarriage. The couple hadn’t even known they were expecting.
“I don’t get scared often, but I was nervous for her life,” Carr said, recalling the frightening trip to the hospital. Doctors reassured them that Heather would be okay, but the couple was blindsided when they learned she had lost a pregnancy they hadn’t been aware of.

The 34-year-old quarterback, known for his leadership on the field, delivered the emotional message with steady resolve. “We had a miscarriage, and we didn’t know we had a baby,” Carr shared, according to WDSU’s Farrah Yvette. “So now we’re hit with this, and this emotional toll of, ‘Wait, we had a child?’ And so, I don’t just have four babies. We have five. One is in heaven.”
Carr said his family was preparing to travel back to New Orleans when Heather’s health emergency interrupted their plans. That moment, and the loss they discovered soon after, reshaped their perspective. He emphasized the importance of compassion, saying, “Let’s be people that don’t judge and point out and just think the worst when you don’t really know what people are going through.”
The four-time Pro Bowler also addressed his shoulder injury, which has recently sparked media speculation. He expressed frustration over how rumors spread without context. “Why do I have to continue to deal with this nonsense? What is going on?” Carr asked. “You never really know what someone’s going through.”
Carr said he has maintained “constant communication” with the Saints regarding his injury and how it’s being managed. But he clarified that the chatter surrounding his situation hasn’t made things easier. “Social media has ruined things,” he added, criticizing how quickly people jump to conclusions without facts.
Despite the heartbreak and the noise surrounding his professional life, Carr stood firm in his priorities. “If it’s going to be faith, family, football, it’s going to be faith, family, football, no matter what the situation is,” he said. Carr is facing a tough time off the field
