CBS Sports Sparks Rage Among NFL Fans After New Controversial Advertisement Hits The Sideline In Week 1 [VIDEO]
Fans had a lot to say.
CBS Sports turned a routine sideline hit into the loudest complaint of the Jets-Titans broadcast. Spero Dedes tossed downstairs to Aditi Kinkhabwala and attached a new controversial advertisement to the intro. Adam Archuleta was in the booth with him. The report itself was standard. The sponsor line was not.
“As we go downstairs for the sideline report, presented by ChatGPT, here’s Aditi,” Dedes said.
Awful Announcing clipped the toss and posted it with a grimace. The video did the rest.
“The sideline report sponsored by ChatGPT.” 😬 https://t.co/wfqLLEevTf

Sideline reports exist because someone is standing in the stadium. That person talks to trainers, coaches and players. A sponsor bumper, especially the type of product they advertised, on that toss felt like a product placement on the one part of the show that still looks analog.
The clip spread because the read was clean and proud. No joke, no wink, just a Week 1 NFL game on CBS Sports selling the drop like a car spot. Viewers have sat through betting odds and insurance reads for years. This one landed differently.
Awful Announcing’s replies filled up fast.
“We are cooked,” one said.
“Disgusting,” another wrote.
“Surprised the mic doesn’t have an ad banner below the CBS logo,” another said.
“It’s over,” a fourth added
“It’s not just a sideline report, it’s a sporting revelation!” a fifth wrote.
The last one was sarcasm. The rest were not.
CBS Sports Booth Already Had Enough Noise Before The Ad Read

This was not the lead Nantz crew. Dedes and Archuleta usually draw the lesser Sunday window. The CBS booth map already changed this summer after Tony Romo’s arrest. J.J. Watt moved up. Depth guys kept the rest of the slate. A new controversial advertisement on a mid-tier game made the whole package feel cheaper.
Sports TV has been stuffing more inventory into live windows for years. ESPN took heat for stacking personalities. Announcers keep leaving or getting reshuffled. Fans still expect the sideline toss to sound like reporting, not a branded drop.
Kinkhabwala still had to deliver the update after the intro. That is the part that bothered people most. A live reporter does interviews. The new controversial advertisement got the first billing.
