His death has affected thousands.

On the heels of the National Championship game, the college world is saddened over the loss of Gerald Paddio.

Paddio, a former NBA player for multiple teams, passed away after a car crash in Louisiana. He was 60 years old.

According to Newsweek, the crash occurred in Rayne, Louisiana. One man was found dead at the scene of a single-car crash. The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office later identified that man as Paddio after notifying the family. They were obviously devastated to hear this news.

No cause of the accident was given as of this writing on Monday morning.

KLFY News 10 reported that Paddio’s car left the roadway and struck a culvert for an unknown reason. The statement added that Paddio died from injuries sustained in the crash after being ejected from the vehicle. It does not appear that he had on a seatbelt, which could’ve saved his life.

Before his untimely death, Paddio made his name on the court. The 6-foot-7 Paddio was a key player for the Las Vegas Runnin’ Rebels as they reached the 1987 Final Four. He averaged 13.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, and two assists per game to help UNLV post a 37-2 record that season.

In the Elite Eight win over Iowa, he knocked down four three-pointers in the second half. Following his run with the Runnin’ Rebels, Paddio was selected in the third round, 74th overall, of the 1988 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics.

However, Gerald Paddio never played in an NBA game for the team. It wouldn’t be until the 1990 season that he made his breakthrough in the league. He would suit up and play in 70 games during that 1990-1991 season with the Cleveland Cavaliers, averaging 7.2 points per game.
