Cunningham described her stance as a matter of “common sense.” While facing significant backlash and player pushback, she has maintained that her position on sports categorization does not equate to animosity toward the transgender community.

The outspoken content creator allegedly avoided the press conference following a politically charged rally outside Seattle’s arena. It came in support of her following her transgender comments. Cunningham and teammate Caitlin Clark were not made available despite the context surrounding the contest.

The decision to avoid the media session left other players and coach Stephanie White to field inquiries about matters they had not personally addressed.
Reporter Roberta had every right to pursue the topic given the timing of the rally outside the venue. Consequently, Hill argued that waiting until a later date would have been inappropriate when the demonstration occurred in real time.
As a result, the organization placed teammates in an awkward position that could have been avoided through direct availability.
The veteran analyst argued that Sophie Cunningham built her entire personal brand on being highly outspoken. Meanwhile, the team allegedly shielded her from non-basketball inquiries by replacing her on the interview podium.
