The Sparks lost a heartbreaker against the Valkyries on Monday night, and Kelsey Plum was pissed for more than one reason.
It was a tough overtime loss, where Los Angeles’ offense fell apart, managing only one field goal in the game’s final five minutes.
Plum initially sat quietly, holding back tears when it was time to speak to reporters, but it wouldn’t last long.
The lack of foul calls might have cost the Sparks a chance at victory in Monday night’s 89-81 overtime loss to the Golden State Valkyries at Crypto.com Arena.
Plum’s voice eventually broke as she expressed her frustration during the postgame news conference.
“I drive more than anyone in the league, so to shoot six free throws is… absurd,” Kelsey Plum said.

“I got scratches on my face. I got scratches on my body and these guards on the other team get these ticky tack fouls and i’m sick of it…they are fouling the shit out of me…I talk to the refs nice. I pray before the game like fuck i’m over it.” pic.twitter.com/NgoYITxYpZ

“I’ve got scratches on my face. I’ve got scratches on my body. And these guards on the other team get these ticky-tack fouls — I’m sick of it.”
Plum then got a bit vulgar as she added, “They are fouling the shit out of me…I talk to the refs nice. I pray before the game like fuck I’m over it.”
The Sparks’ second loss in three matchups has the team at 3-7.
Plum said she felt she was getting fouled on nearly “every possession.” She was in shock that she hardly got any whistles. She made all six of her free-throw attempts, with her final trip to the line coming with 7:54 remaining in the third quarter.
“I don’t know what else to do,” Kelsey Plum added.
“There were multiple shots at the end of the game — end of the third, end of the fourth — where they’re just coming in… swinging, and they don’t call anything.”
Things Have Not Come Easy For Kelsey Plum Since Being Traded
Kelsey Plum was traded from the Las Vegas Aces to the Los Angeles Sparks in a three-team trade involving the Seattle Storm. The trade also sent Jewell Loyd to the Aces and the No. 2 draft pick to the Storm.
The Sparks are 3-7 to start the 2025 campaign, but Plum has held up her end. The three-time All-Star is averaging 21.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 1.9 steals per game.
It was smooth sailing with the Aces and multiple titles, but it might take some time before the Sparks become contenders.
