Pro Football Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw isn’t sold on the idea of his old team bringing Aaron Rodgers to town.
The New York Jets released Rodgers from his contract in March following a disastrous 2024 season, sending him to free agency for the first time in his career. Rodgers has been in deep conversations with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but the 41-year-old hasn’t decided if he’ll sign or call it a career.
Never one to mince words, Terry Bradshaw thinks the possibility of Rodgers coming to Pittsburgh is “a joke.” The four-time Super Bowl champion explained why he doesn’t view Rodgers and the Steelers as a match during an appearance on 103.7 The Buzz:
“That’s a joke. That to me is just a joke. What are you gonna do? Bring him in for one year, are you kidding me? That guy needs to stay in California. Go somewhere and chew on bark and whisper to the gods out there.”
There’s another interesting footnote if the Steelers sign Rodgers that could make things rocky with Terry Bradshaw. The latter’s No. 12 was never retired by the Steelers, and that was Rodgers’ jersey number with the Green Bay Packers.
Rodgers wore No. 8 for the New York Jets, since 12 was retired in honor of Joe Namath. If the Steelers let Rodgers wear No. 12 in Steel City, that could make Bradshaw more unhappy with the signing.
In 2024, Rodgers completed 63.0 percent of pass attempts for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. But Pittsburgh would happily take that production, considering none of their quarterbacks have thrown for 20 TD passes in a season since Ben Roethlisberger’s last year in 2021.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said it would “surprise” him if Rodgers didn’t end up signing with Pittsburgh. Owner Art Rooney II and head coach Mike Tomlin have also expressed optimism about the four-time MVP coming aboard.
Terry Bradshaw may not be excited about the idea of the Steelers signing a 41-year-old quarterback, but he better be ready for it. At this point, all signs point to Rodgers putting the pen to paper.
