Shortly after Shakira performed ‘Dai Dai’ at the opening ceremony in Mexico City, social media erupted with claims that the singer had used a body double.
Fans pointed to her sunglasses, appearance and dancing as supposed evidence, despite no credible proof supporting the theory.
Now, another viral video is challenging that narrative.

The clip compares Shakira’s opening ceremony performance with her energetic and youthful halftime show during the World Cup final.
“So the theory that Shakira wasn’t Shakira at the World Cup kickoff in Mexico is over, or what?” the caption asks.

“I don’t think so; this confirms it was her double,” one commented.
Another claimed, “Today’s is the original one; I’m sure the other one isn’t Shakira, even the hair is different….”
“No, she was never there. A few artists and celebrities use their doubles,” argued a third.
Several outlets examined the claims after they first surfaced. Fact-checkers found no evidence that Shakira used a stand-in, noting matching physical features, including a small scar on her forehead visible in footage from the ceremony.
