Passenger being removed from Southwest Airlines flight

One passenger was removed from the aircraft due to serious concerns.

A Southwest Airlines flight bound for Fort Lauderdale, flying from Nashville, diverted and landed in Hartsfield-Jackson on Friday due to a security threat.

The threat prompted police to remove one passenger from the plane.

According to reports, Flight 2094 landed safely in Atlanta around 9:06 p.m.

The airline later released a statement noting that the plane diverted because of a “possible security matter.” 

They also confirmed that the Atlanta Police Department removed a passenger.

“Southwest Airlines Flight 2094 landed safely at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) Friday evening after diverting to respond to a possible security matter,” a Southwest spokesperson said in a statement, per FOX5.

“We appreciate the professionalism of our Flight Crew and apologize to our Customers for the delay. Nothing is more important to Southwest than the Safety of its Customers and Employees.”

It isn’t clear what the passenger said or did to prompt the change in flight paths and the resulting police response.

Authorities had not confirmed whether they found anything dangerous on the plane at the time of writing.

It is also unknown whether the passenger is facing charges or if he’s still in custody.
