Karmelo Anthony’s family was crying in the courtroom.
Rare footage and images of Karmelo Anthony with his family have gone viral online following Tuesday’s verdict.
A Texas jury found the 19-year-old guilty after just three hours of deliberation. He is now facing up to 99 years or life in prison.
Anthony was 17 at the time of a stabbing incident, which left Austin Metcalf, also 17, dead last year. Texas law permitted him to be charged as an adult.
Witnesses noted how the families reacted after the verdict was read out.
Karmelo’s lawyer is said to have kept an arm wrapped around him while he sobbed. His mother, Kala, and the rest of his family were also in tears.
Austin’s twin brother, Hunter, reportedly leaned forward, while their parents smiled. Other family members wept for joy, per the Daily Mail.

Folks did not appreciate the post’s timing.
“Ahahhhahha he took a kids life he threw all that away stop blaming others for your POS temper,” one wrote.
“Only black people could make a hero out of this idiot murdering pos. There is something seriously f***ing wrong with you people. And we’re getting sick of your s**t,” another said.
Karmelo Anthony Denied Break After Verdict

Anthony admitted to stabbing Metcalf during a track meet between their schools in Frisco, Texas, last April.
His lawyers argued that he had acted in self-defense, claiming Austin and other members of the rival school were the aggressors.
A fight would ensue that would end in Austin dying in his twin’s arms and Karmelo going on the run, albeit a short one.
As noted above, it only took jurors three hours to decide the latter was guilty of murder. His legal team petitioned the sitting judge for a short break after the verdict, but were reminded that the decision meant that he was back in custody.
