Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David shared their first real, definitely-not-undercover kiss in the second episode of NCIS Season 11, as Cote de Pablo exited the series after an eight-season run.

Years later, at the close of Season 13, Tony discovered that a presumed-dead Ziva had quietly given birth to their daughter, Tali, setting up original cast member Michael Weatherly‘s own exit from the well-watched CBS drama.

So… when was the aforementioned Tali conceived?

When De Pablo and Weatherly paid a visit to TVLine’s NYC office last week to promote the Paramount+ spinoff NCIS: Tony & Ziva, founding editor Matt Mitovich presented the pair with that burning question — and at the 2:10 mark, you get their answer. Or, at least, their best possible speculation.

Opening the video Q&A, Tony and Ziva’s portrayers talk about keeping the internationally flavored offshoot a secret for some time before it was announced (in February 2024). They then share their memories of their previous final scene together, when #Tiva shared that tender kiss on a tarmac.

After speculating about Tali’s conception, Weatherly and de Pablo open up about what was most important to them in revising their characters’ always complicated relationship; hail the series’ co-starring cast; and tease a few NCIS Easter eggs to expect (beyond the McGee reference spoiled in trailers).

Mitovich then invites the scene partners to talk about the “murder cars” chase from NCIS: Tony & Ziva Episode 2 (and how it led Weatherly to channel Harrison Ford), executing their first real love scene in Episode 3, and why Ziva broke Tony’s heart by not moving in with him and Tali in the latest flashback.
