AB Hernandez, a California transgender athlete, is finding it rather hard to showcase her talent on the volleyball court since so many schools are refusing to play against her team.

2025 has been filled with non-stop controversy surrounding the transgender athlete.

The California high school junior and transgender athlete has had her career on the volleyball court slowed down due to others not wanting to play against her for obvious reasons.

Four girls’ high school volleyball teams in California have forfeited rather than compete against Jurupa Valley, Hernandez’s team.

None of the schools has explicitly given a reason, but it remains quite obvious that they are all trying to send the same message.

Earlier this year, AB Hernandez caught social media’s wrath by winning CIF titles in the girls’ long jump and triple jump at the Southern Section finals.

Hernandez, who was born a male, jumped 19′ 3.5″ while the “second” place jumper, Kaylee Best, a female, jumped 19′ .75.”

After the dust finally settled following the controversy over a trans athlete participating in the California Interscholastic Federation earlier this year, AB Hernandez got a chance to get back on the volleyball court.

Hernandez, who has had her mother by her side to protect her from angry parents, has steadily found it hard to have other high schools play against her squad.

The transgender athlete, who won three medals in the state track and field championships last spring, helped the Lady Jags to the Southern Section Division 5 volleyball playoffs last fall.

With Friday’s games against Orange Vista, the latest to be canceled by forfeit, the Lady Jags will now be able to play a nonleague match on Sept. 4 against Chaffey High School.

“We made a decision to play against Jurupa Valley in volleyball because it is an equitable match-up,” Chaffey athletic director Chris Brown wrote in an email per the LA Times.

“Chaffey and Jurupa Valley play each other in several sports. We make decisions on the basis for what is best for our kids and school.
