Despite constantly being at each other’s throats while on Fox News’s The Five, it appears that off-screen, Jessica Tarlov and Jesse Watters have a rather cordial relationship.

Tarlov and Watters are known for clashing on-air over their vastly different political beliefs, with the two often teasing each other in a lighthearted, tongue-in-cheek way.

And while Fox News viewers might assume that the pair don’t get along behind the scenes, that’s reportedly not true: the hosts reportedly consider themselves friendly professional colleagues.

Earlier this year, Watters spoke about his relationship with Democratic Party strategist, Tarlov, telling Sage Steele, “Jessica’s great. We used to go home together, not in that way, that didn’t sound right.”

Talking about how he’s known for interrupting Tarlov, 42, he said, “I’ve been trying to be more polite,” as Steele laughed.

“You think I’m bad?” he asked in response. “Greg’s worse. Greg yells at her. I try not to yell…I’ve come to the conclusion that I should not be yelling at women. When a man yells at a woman, he kind of loses a little masculinity…So I like to just calmly, as much as I can, say my thing, and interrupt her less.”

Waters also confirmed that the pair are “friends,” something that would undoubtedly surprise many Fox News viewers.

He also admitted that he knows he can come off “condescending” when speaking to Tarlov, but made sure to note, “Jessica and I are friendly. We don’t hang out on the weekends, but we’re good.”

The iconic duo has worked together for a long time, appearing on Hannity before they started co-hosting The Five. They would also often take the subway downtown together after filming since they both lived in the same area at the time.

Watters said that these subway rides allowed them to develop a rapport outside the studio, which the 47-year-old cited as proof that their on-air bickering isn’t rooted in a personal grudge.

Furthermore, expert astrologer Louise Muir-Sage spoke to the Irish Star US about their friendship and said she believes they’re “surprisingly good pals” despite on-screen spats.

Referring to their star signs, Watters being a Cancer, and Tarlov a Pisces, Muir-Sage said, “This is a water-sign duo! It is likely you will find emotions, intuition, and intensity all rolled into one.

“Cancer and Pisces usually get each other instinctively. This means generally, there is no second-guessing of the other person. They share that emotional language where you don’t have to explain how you feel, the other just knows.”

Speaking about whether they are actually friends, the astrologer added, “Off-camera, this could make them surprisingly good friends. Knowing this, it may be surprising when people witness the somewhat fiery clashes on air. So let me explain.

“There are two reasons. First, the show sets them up to disagree; it makes good television! It’s their job, to some extent, to lock horns. Second, water signs don’t argue lightly. Although you may expect more heat from fire signs, when water signs get into a debate or argument, they put their whole heart into it.”
