SHOCKING: Donald Tru::mp Wants The NFL To Change 3 Things Before 2026 Kickoff

Trump is very serious about it.

Donald Trump has three demands for the NFL, and he’s not backing down. With the 2026 season less than two months away, he’s bringing them up again. Trump has long been vocal about football, dating back to a failed bid for the Bills. That history may explain why he keeps pushing the league to change.

Trump wants the NFL to scrap its modified kickoff rule entirely. He also wants tighter limits on how many games move to streaming. His third demand is the strangest: he wants the sport renamed. Trump argues the word already belongs to soccer in other countries.

“When you look at what’s happened to football in the United States, soccer in the United States. We seem to never call it that (football) because we have a conflict with another thing that’s called football. But when you think about it, shouldn’t it really be called? This is football, there is no question about it. We have to come up with another name for the NFL stuff,” he said.

Trump’s biggest complaint by far is the league’s dynamic kickoff format. The rule keeps most players still until the ball is caught. He’s repeatedly called it “ridiculous — takes the pageantry and glamour away from the game.” He’s brought up the complaint on social media, podcasts, and in interviews.

Trump’s second complaint centers on games moving behind streaming paywalls. He worries fans can’t afford several subscriptions just to watch football. Trump said many supporters “don’t make enough money to go and pay this.” He’s warned that streaming could quietly kill the sport’s audience over time. Fans have mixed feelings, but many agree with this specific complaint.

Donald Trump’s Push for Change Isn’t New

This isn’t Trump’s first time picking fights with the league’s decisions. He’s linked the kickoff rule to other controversial NFL moments before. Trump even tied it to Bill Belichick’s Hall of Fame snub earlier this year. His push for NFL changes has become a recurring storyline every offseason.

One coach even fired back at Trump over his kickoff complaints. Chiefs special teams coach Dave Toub said Trump doesn’t fully understand the rule. Despite the pushback, Trump shows no signs of dropping the topic. Whether the NFL will listen is still anyone’s guess heading into 2026.
