Sophie Cunningham posted a humorous response to a viral offseason workout clip as the Indiana Fever guard continues rehabbing from a torn MCL suffered in 2025.
Sophie Cunningham’s 2025 WNBA season ended early after the Indiana Fever guard suffered a brutal injury against the Connecticut Suns on August 17, 2025.
The 29-year-old has been working to return to action in the 2026 offseason. Recently, Cunningham’s trainer shared a video of the guard’s dribbling session, with the text:
“POV: WNBA players are elite ball handlers.”
Hoop Herald’s X (formerly Twitter) handle shared the clip of a training session on Friday.
“Sophie Cunningham has been putting in serious work with NBA Trainer, Coach P (@Pnewt0n),” the caption read. “Love this manipulation work that gets added into the ball handing work.”
Cunningham reposted the clip with a brutal response.
“damn, can yall not let a girl warmup…. hahaha already bustin my balls,” Cunningham wrote.
Cunningham’s injury happened when she slid baseline to provide help defense as Sun guard Bria Hartley drove to the basket against Kelsey Mitchell. Hartley went airborne for a pass, then landed awkwardly and collided with Sophie Cunningham’s right leg, causing her knee to buckle inward.
The guard initially clutched her right leg and attempted to hobble before collapsing to the floor in pain. However, medical staff had to assist her to the locker room. Following an MRI on August 18, reports confirmed a torn MCL, which sidelined her for the remainder of the 2025 season.
She underwent surgery shortly after and was expected to make a full recovery in time for the 2026 WNBA season. She has been undergoing physical therapy since then and recently mentioned that the process is physically demanding.

Tensions continue to rise between the WNBA and the Women’s National Basketball Players Association as collective bargaining negotiations drag on, with just over three months before the 2026 season.
Following a recent three-hour meeting, Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham took a dig at the league over the slow progress on her “Show Me Something” podcast. She believes the ongoing deadlock makes the league look bad compared to other major sports.

“I’ve been around a lot of NHL people, a lot of NBA people, a lot of MLB people, and everyone is like, ‘Why are you guys not using what we’ve already built?’… Our negotiation and all that, how that’s going, it’s like we’re the laughing stock of sports right now. That is so f—ing typical.” Sophie Cunningham said.
She added that divisions among owners, some “player-first,” others more conservative, are slowing investment decisions. The league has not presented a new proposal since December, when it reportedly offered major salary-cap increases, though they were still below union demands.
