Everyone Wants ESPN To Fire Caitlin Clark’s Biggest Hater Immediately
The situation has reached its boiling point.
ESPN finds itself in another Caitlin Clark firestorm, and this time the target isn’t Clark herself. Analyst Monica McNutt is facing calls to lose her job after a comment that fans say completely missed the moment.
The backlash started right after Clark opened up about the pressure that follows her everywhere she goes. Her honesty was supposed to generate sympathy. Instead, it triggered a response that reignited an old debate about how ESPN’s talent treats its biggest star.

Clark told ESPN’s Malika Andrews that the constant media attention has become exhausting.
“I think a lot of it is not always based in reality. I feel like media and journalism have a responsibility to tell the stories, and a lot of the time you guys are the ones controlling the narratives about what people read and what people talk about. And a lot of that is sometimes so far out of touch with what is reality. And that can be confusing to somebody that’s 24 and trying to navigate life and trying to help her team win a championship,” Clark said.
McNutt responded by saying the former No. 1 overall pick could have more accountability and self-awareness.
“I do think, as she continues to matriculate through this league, there’s room for a little more accountability and self-awareness, in terms of her role in the larger sisterhood, if she sees it that way, in the WNBA,” McNutt said.
Fans immediately accused McNutt of flipping the script and blaming Clark for how others react to her.
This isn’t the first time McNutt’s commentary has drawn scrutiny. She previously sparked outrage after tying Clark’s popularity to her race, a comment that also generated heavy criticism at the time.

Reaction poured in quickly once McNutt’s comments circulated. Former NFL player Geoff Schwartz argued that no standard Clark meets will ever satisfy her critics.
“It’s just obvious that ppl covering the league just don’t like Clark. The standard to which they expect from her is just not attainable and nothing she does will ever be enough,” he said.
“Im glad Malika said we all have a responsibility. Mcnutt talking about accountability while not being to take any. Truly special talent,” one fan said.
“ESPN needs to get rid of her, man,” one fan added.
“McNutt & all the other loony tunes at ESPN we all know who they are AND others across the WNBA who call themselves media need to be gone ASAP,” one fan added.
That timing hasn’t helped McNutt’s case. Fans are now openly wondering why she survived the cuts while arguing her commentary has become part of the same negativity Clark described as exhausting.
ESPN hasn’t commented on the growing pressure to address McNutt directly. Until it does, fans plan to keep pushing, and Clark’s advocates show no signs of letting this one go quietly.
