Veteran guard Sophie Cunningham is returning to the Indiana Fever for a second season, ESPN’s Alexa Philippou reports. She has reportedly agreed to a one-year contract, but financial terms have not yet been announced.

Cunningham, 29, joined the Fever last season from the Phoenix Mercury as part of a four-team trade, helping to bolster an Indiana backcourt that sought to become a playoff squad in 2025.

The Fever followed through on those postseason ambitions, making the WNBA playoffs as the No. 6 seed and upset the Atlanta Dream in the first round before losing to the eventual league champion Las Vegas Aces.

Indiana is bringing back that backcourt depth, also re-signing Kelsey Mitchell off a career season of 20.2 points per game with 3.2 assists and 39% shooting on 3-pointers. Lexie Hull is also returning to a squad hoping to get a full season from Caitlin Clark.

The Fever have further bolstered their roster with the free-agent additions of forward Monique Billings and point guard Ty Harris.

The key to success will be staying healthy. Clark appeared in only 13 games due to quad, groin and ankle injuries last season. Cunningham averaged 8.6 points and 3.5 rebounds, while shooting 42% on 3-pointers, but was limited to 30 games after sustaining a torn MCL in her right knee.

She also provided an “enforcer” role, protecting Clark on the court when opponents attempted to rough her up physically.

“Now being on her team and seeing it, I’m like ‘What are people doing?’” Cunningham said on her “Show Me Something” podcast. “Actually, it’s just too much, it’s too much. I’m over it, and if I think it’s too much, it’s probably too much.”

In her seven WNBA seasons (the first six with the Mercury), Cunningham has averaged 7.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists, shooting 38% on 3-pointers.

Fearne announced her split from Jesse, the son of Rolling Stones bass guitarist Ronnie Wood, in December after 10 years of marriage.

She has since made swipes at Jesse and moved on with TV director Elliot Hegarty, with the pair having been seen kissing during a recent night out.

Fearne has had a difficult few months after undergoing surgery to remove two benign tumours from her jawline, just days before her split with Jesse emerged.

She told host Lorraine: ‘It’s all very amicable and kids are doing great. I am in a very good place.’place.’

Discussing her recent surgery, she added: ‘I feel very grateful to have completely recovered.

‘I feel really good. I have a lot of people reaching out who have had the same thing.’

Davina McCall, 56, announced in November she’d been diagnosed with a colloid cyst, a rare type of benign brain tumour, and has supported Fearne.

She continued: ‘Everyone needs a Davina. She’s been amazing, weird that we had the same health thing going on at the same time. She’s so calming and we speak every day. She is just the best

It comes after Fearne has seemingly made another thinly-veiled dig at her ex-husband as she gushed that she is the happiest she’s ever been in a positive update.

Speaking to Scott Mills on his BBC Radio 2 breakfast show, Fearne gushed that she is ‘really happy’ and is ‘springing out of bed in the morning ready for life’.

Scott, who has known Fearne for 25 years, said he has never seen her ‘more positive or happier’, prompting Fearne to agree and reply: ‘Yeah I feel great!’

She told how her health scare has changed her outlook and said she has been seeking comfort from Davina.
