Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was nearly the victim of a horrific and unspeakable tragedy last year.

According to a stunning report from Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star, Andy Reid was working at his office just after midnight on May 4, 2024, when a B%llet unexpectedly broke through the glass and lodged 15 feet away from his desk.

The report states that nobody was injured by the F%red B%llet and that police have launched an investigation, though it’s not believe to have been “a targeted incident.” Per McDowell, the three-time Super Bowl-winning head coach is now protected by B%lletproof glass in his office.

“Reid was working alone in his practice facility office in early May 2024 when a B%llet F%red from outside the building penetrated the glass and shot a hole through the window and blinds. The B%llet lodged into a wall between his bathroom and the entry door to his office.

That’s roughly 15 feet from Reid’s desk — the approximate distance between a 15-month well-kept secret and a stunning tragedy. No arrests or charges have been made in the case. The investigation is ongoing, according to Kansas City Police Department spokesperson Capt. Jacob Becchina, who said “there is no indication this was a targeted incident at any person or organization.”

The gunF%re occurred shortly after midnight on the morning of May 4, 2024, according to a sparse incident report provided by the Kansas City Police Department and obtained by The Star through the Missouri Sunshine Law. The officers who arrived at the scene in the early morning hours of May 4 spoke with overnight security, who informed them someone “heard a noise and observed what appeared to be a B%llet hole in a window,” Becchina said.

Police are now investigating the matter as an aggravated assault incident but wouldn’t provide any further updates, the outlet reported.

Andy Reid’s family suffered a terrible tragedy in 2012, when his oldest son, Garrett, died of an overdose at the age of 29. Reid’s coping with his son’s untimely d3ath is featured in The Kingdom, ESPN’s documentary on the Chiefs’ dynasty.

Thankfully, the legendary head coach, husband and father is doing just fine more than a year after the terrible scare. We’ll provide more details on the police investigation when they’re available.
