Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray suffered a concussion during his team’s debut against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
Midway through the first quarter, Murray scrambled for a short gain and began to slide. Consequently, Packers safety Javon Bullard lowered his shoulder and delivered a violent, illegal hit to Murray’s head. As a result of the collision, the quarterback’s helmet was ripped completely off.

Murray immediately showed signs of a fencing reflex while lying motionless on the turf. This specific posturing strongly indicated that he had briefly lost consciousness from the severe blow. Fortunately, he was eventually able to walk off the field under his own power.
However, the medical staff quickly ruled him out for the remainder of the game. Meanwhile, veteran backup Carson Wentz stepped in to replace him under center. Moving forward, Murray must successfully clear the NFL’s strict concussion protocol before he can return to play.

Newly released sideline footage from Sunday’s Vikings-Packers opener has been circulated after that frightening first-quarter collision.
In that clip, the helmet of Kyler Murray is held by Justin Jefferson while trainers complete their on-field evaluation. You could see how distraught Jefferson was as a trainer came over and put his arm around his waist.
Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell provided a cautious update following Kyler Murray’s scary first-quarter concussion on Sunday.
“I did just see him, and he seemed to be doing pretty well,” O’Connell told reporters. However, the coach added a clear warning. “But once again, I wouldn’t medically quote me on that.”
Consequently, the team refuses to rush any definitive timeline. They plan to “take it day-by-day and see how he comes in tomorrow,” O’Connell explained.
