Kaitlan Collins started her journalism career in Washington, D.C., as an intern for The Daily Caller. She initially wrote pop culture listicles and celebrity entertainment pieces.
Collins soon transitioned to political reporting during the 2016 presidential election campaign. By January 2017, at just 24 years old, she was named The Daily Caller’s White House correspondent to cover the incoming Trump administration.
She caught the attention of CNN leadership at a White House Correspondents’ event. That led to her being hired by CNN to join its White House press team in the summer of 2017. Meanwhile, she gained a reputation for her relentless, direct questioning of President Donald Trump.
Her contentious exchanges made national headlines. That included Kaitlan Collins being barred from an open press event after asking questions administration officials deemed inappropriate.
In May 2023, she was promoted to the network’s coveted 9:00 PM ET prime-time slot. She has hosted the nightly political program The Source with Kaitlan Collins since July 2023.
