Lonzo Ball might be nearing the end of his journey in the league, as his ongoing struggles and medical issues have made teams wary of acquiring him.
Lonzo Ball’s journey with the NBA may have come to an end. The Cleveland Cavaliers traded him to the Utah Jazz this midseason, but the Jazz moved him out on the same day. Now, Ball is a free agent, and he surprisingly remains unbothered despite his ongoing underwhelming struggles, further casting doubt on his future in the league.
Ball started his career as the second overall pick of the 2017 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. The 28-year-old last played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, appearing in 35 games. He averaged 4.6 points, 4 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game, offering strong defense, smart passing, and improved shooting.
In the meantime, NBA expert Brett Siegel reported some facts on Ball’s future in the league.
“There are concerns among many league personnel that the former second-overall pick may not play again over concerns with his medical records… Nothing is imminent on this front, and Ball will continue to work on strengthening his game and health as he waits for another opportunity. Should he remain unsigned through the remainder of this season and want to continue his playing career, Lonzo may be forced to do so overseas,” he stated.
Unfortunately, a serious knee injury kept him sidelined for a long time. However, Ball did not return with the same intensity later. Now, a strong breakout run could help him regain his position in the league. Nothing is official yet, and there is still hope that he can revive his career.

Following a recent off-court moment that pulled him into the center of controversy, Ball’s future in the league became a topic of concern. After the Jazz moved him out, the Denver Nuggets and Golden State Warriors showed interest in adding him as a backup guard for their playoff push.
However, eventually the talks faded, and a recent report from ESPN’s Brett Siegel suggests that Ball’s knee injury could stop any deal from happening. “The Golden State Warriors held strong interest in Ball, as did the Nuggets, sources said. However, no deal ever materialized for Ball with the Warriors or Nuggets due to concerns both organizations had with his overall knee health,” wrote Siegel.
Ball struggled to stay competitive since returning from multiple knee surgeries. Given the uncertainty, his future in the league appears increasingly unclear as teams remain hesitant to take a risk on his health.
