The News Anchor Shared They Underwent Surgery & Treatment In Another State

The reporter is known to many as a Fox Carolina evening news anchor. They also previously worked as a sports anchor in Wyoming, Ohio, and Florida.

Fox Carolina evening news anchor Tori Carmen previously shared this news with fans last spring. At the time, she revealed she wouldn’t be on the air for a few months as she was getting treatment.

Making the admission all the more poignant, Carmen was newly engaged and was planning a fall wedding. A year after the story first came out, she recently spoke with People to give fans another update.

Looking back, Carmen admitted that she originally thought she was just dealing with the flu. However, the situation soon became apparent when she underwent a seizure. She shared, “I couldn’t even speak. I was in so much pain, I couldn’t scream anymore, I just fell into darkness. It was like a black hole taking me under. I thought I was dying.”

Tori Carmen Also Expressed What She Felt During Her Seizure

Fortunately, Carmen’s fiancé, Jeremy Holt, was trained in law enforcement and knew how to help her when she lost consciousness. Soon, EMTs arrived, and she was taken to the hospital. After a few CT scans, she learned that she had a meningioma, a “very common brain tumor.”

This led to Carmen undergoing a craniotomy in Chicago. She noted, “It sounds so scary, someone opening your skull. I couldn’t believe it was happening to me. At the same time, I knew it needed to be done. I had to let go and be positive and know I was going to the best place to get it taken care of.” Before leaving, she shared that she and Jeremy had headed to the sheriff’s office to get married.

Tori Carmen Shared How She Hoped Her Story Would Inspire Others

While a PET scan showed that the cancer was removed, Carmen decided it would be best to undergo gamma knife radiation to make sure it was gone. She and Jeremy later returned to South Carolina by June.

As Carmen shared, “I’ve had three MRIs so far, and they’ve been good, they’ve been clear, and that’s amazing. I’m still taking medicine for the one grand mal seizure. They’re trying to lower that dose. There’s no more treatment right now, hopefully, fingers crossed, knock on wood. Everything looks good so far.”

With this news, Carmen shared that she and Holt were planning a wedding celebration in May 2026. She added, “We’re going to make it a big celebration of love, but also health and gratitude that we can all be together.”

Ultimately, Carmen hoped that sharing her story would inspire people to seek help when they need it. As she shared with the outlet, “I’ve met so many people who felt alone getting a diagnosis like mine. I’m transparent about sharing, especially for women: If there is something that doesn’t feel right, make sure you go to the doctor. Take care of yourself. A lot of times we put things off because we’re worried about everybody else.”
