The stage is set at Rogers Center for Game 1 of the 2025 World Series, where the Toronto Blue Jays will take on the Los Angeles Dodgers. Toronto has placed a major bet on rookie right-hander Trey Yesavage, who has had a phenomenal season so far.

At 22 years and 88 days old, Yesavage will become the second-youngest Game 1 starter in World Series history, behind only the Dodgers’ Ralph Branca, who did it in 1947. The Blue Jays believe he has earned it after an incredible debut season, which included a record-setting performance in the playoffs.

Trey Yesavage has been sensational in October. In the ALDS, he struck out 11 batters in 5 1/3 no-hit innings, helping Toronto take a 2-0 lead over the New York Yankees. Yesavage’s World Series debut won’t be easy. He will face Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman, who hold an excellent record in the World Series. But the rookie isn’t backing down.

“He’s a special player,” Trey Yesavage said of Ohtani. “He can do damage on both sides of the baseball. But it doesn’t take away the fact that we are in this situation, too, for a reason. So it’s just about going out there and being ourselves, and if there’s adjustments that we need to make to try to neutralize him, we’ll make those adjustments.”

When asked if he had any special plans for facing the Dodgers’ star-studded lineup, Yesavage kept it simple.

“I’m pretty meat and potatoes with it,” Trey Yesavage said. “Just keep it basic. I don’t want to be out there on the mound thinking too much, because for me, I’m at my best when I’m just blacked out out there and not thinking at all.”

With the home crowd behind him and his name already making headlines, the young pitcher has a chance to add another chapter to what is quickly becoming a storybook rookie season.
