Adam Schefter scared the hell out of NFL fans.

Chris Berman is one of ESPN’s longest-tenured employees and is a familiar face to American sports fans across the country.

ESPN has been the worldwide leader in sports since establishing itself in 1979. Longtime anchor Chris Berman has been a part of the program since its birth.

That will continue as his new contract keeps him with ESPN through 2029, according to Adam Schefter. This would make him the first employee to celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary.

He’s also slated to be with the company when ESPN broadcasts the Super Bowl in 2027.

Speaking of Schefter, he announced that wonderful news this week but did so in a terribly written way.

“Legendary ESPN anchor Chris Berman, who joined the network just after its September 7, 1979, launch, has extended his contract,” he started off his tweet.

“In 2029, he will become ESPN’s first employee to celebrate his 50th anniversary with the network,” Schefter posted on X.”

Fans online saw “Legendary ESPN anchor Chris Berman” and immediately thought the worst possible thing had happened to him.

How Social Media Reacted To Adam Schefter’s Tweet On Chris Berman

“Heart skipped a beat after the first line,” one fan said.

“Don’t ever start a tweet like that again,” a second fan demanded.

“When it comes to old people, you all gotta start tweets like this with “GOOD NEWS!” a third fan added.

“Don’t ever scare me like this again,” a fourth fan said to Adam Schefter.

“Holy shit there has to be a better way to announce this,” one final fan wrote.

Hopefully, Schefter learned a valuable lesson.
