The View broke out into chaos during this morning’s broadcast, with Alyssa Farah Griffin and Whoopi Goldberg clashing over the Israel-Iran conflict.

After Sunny Hostin accused Israel of not following diplomatic legality by launching airstrikes against Iran’s nuclear sites last week, Sara Haines said she won’t defend Iran, which she described as a “terrorist nation that has been funding people killing people for decades.”

“They’ve never followed the rules,” Haines added.

Griffin, for her part, argued that “Iranians literally throw gay people off of buildings” and “don’t adhere to basic human rights,” which set Goldberg off.

“Let’s not do that because if we start with that, we have been known in this country to tie gay folks to the car. They used to just keep hanging Black people,” Goldberg fumed, to which Griffin snapped, “I’m sorry but where the Iranian regime is today in 2025 is nothing compared to the United States.”

Goldberg tried to correct Griffin, saying the two situations “are the same.” However, Griffin stood firm in her belief.

“No, it’s not. The year 2025 in the United States is nothing like if I step foot wearing this outfit in Iran right now. I can’t have my hair showing, I can’t wear a skirt, I can’t have my arms out,” she said, to which Goldberg fired back, “It is the same. Murdering someone for their difference is not good whoever does it! It’s not good. What I heard was not what you meant.”

Griffin once again repeated, “I think it’s very different to live in the United States in 2025 than it is to live in Iran,” while Goldberg added, “Not if you’re Black.”

Goldberg continued, “Let me tell you about being in this country. This is the greatest country in the world. I know that. We all know that. But everyday we are worried. Do we have to be worried about our kids? Are our kids gonna get shot because they’re running through somebody’s neighborhood?”

While Griffin acknowledged the America also has “very real problems,” she said it was “important” to remember that “there are places much darker than this country.”

“Not everybody feels that way. When you think about the fact that we got the vote in 1965…,” Goldberg said, referring to the year Black people got the right to vote in the United States. Griffin, however, cut her off to point out, “They don’t have free and fair elections in Iran! It’s not even the same universe,” while Haines reminded the moderator that women in Iran can’t leave their house “without an escort.”

When Goldberg gave up arguing with Griffin, Joy Behar jumped in to explain her friend’s perspective.

“Try to reverse roles with a Black person in this country, let’s say, because I think that’s what you’re talking about. Just try to understand from that point of view, this country does not do them well, does not go for them,” she told Griffin. “If you’re talking about Iran, Iran, of course, is doing worse things, but relatively speaking it feels bad.”

But Griffin wasn’t buying it, telling Behar, “I think you know that Iran is significantly worse than our country.”
