Pat McAfee has finally broken his silence on the false “s3x sc@ndal” rumor about Ole Miss student Mary Kate Cornett.
In February, Cornett was the target of an unsubstantiated viral rumor, which McAfee then discussed on his ESPN show.
The 18-year-old was thrown into the middle of a cyberstorm after online posts claimed she was sleeping with the father of her boyfriend, Evan Solis. Mary Kate and Evan, University of Mississippi freshmen, were also forced to deny the claims on Instagram before the authorities were contacted.
The FBI and local police were said to be trying to hunt down the people responsible for the initial posts.
McAfee did not help matters by sharing that information on his widely popular podcast show.
Nearly four months later, McAfee addressed his role in perpetuating the false reporting on his show and said he recently met with Mary Kate Cornett and her family to apologize.
McAfee said he has “since learned” that the rumors about Cornett were “not true” and that his show “played a role in the anguish caused to a great family and especially to a young woman.”
The ESPN host continued, “I think you all know from this show that I never want to be a source of negativity or contribute to another human’s suffering.”
McAfee then said he has since gone to talk with Cornett and her family. “I can now happily share with you that I recently got to meet Mary Kate and her family, and I got a chance to sincerely apologize to them.”

Mary Kate Cornett fought for her name.
The Ole Miss freshman engaged legal representation and stated she intended to sue McAfee, ESPN, and potentially others over what happened to her in February.
“You’re ruining my life by talking about it on your show for nothing but attention, but here I am staying up until 5 in the morning, every night, throwing up, not eating because I’m so anxious about what’s going to happen for the rest of my life.”
After meeting with McAfee, who knows if her threat to sue has stopped.
Brittney Griner (Photo via Twitter)
WNBA star Brittney Griner was at the center of a new debate over what she allegedly said in a game against basketball phenom Caitlin Clark.
The Atlanta Dream center found herself at the center of social media controversy last month when some fans thought she disparaged Indiana Fever star guard Caitlin Clark upon fouling out.
The game’s broadcast focused on an upset Griner saying something as she returned to the Dream bench after fouling out of the game. While there’s no audio of this moment, some who tried to read Griner’s lips thought she called Clark a “trash f–king white girl.”
However, there’s no proof of Griner saying those actual words since others thought she stated something else.
It took weeks for someone to finally get a quote from her, and she provided much of nothing.
Brittney Griner was asked about this moment before her team’s June 15 game against the Washington Mystics and said, “I remember fouling out, being mad. I remember fouling out on, I believe it was [Natasha] Howard driving to the basket. They said I put my hand in.”

Moments before the conclusion of the Indiana Fever’s 81-76 victory over the Dream at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta weeks ago, cameras seemingly caught Atlanta Dream star center Brittney Griner labeling Caitlin Clark “trash” before calling her a “f***ing white girl” in frustration over a foul on Natasha Howard.
The clip of Griner speaking on the bench, lacking context, spread on social media and went viral.
Griner, who won a gold medal for Team USA at the Summer Olympics in Paris in 2024, essentially got away with whatever came out of her mouth because the league basically ignored the controversy.
This incident is not the only time Griner vocalized her frustrations this season. Following another game, she stormed off mid-interview, yelling at the referees to “be f—ing better.
