Hollywood legend Alec Baldwin was seen getting into a tense exchange after he crashed his wife Hilaria’s Range Rover into a tree while driving with his brother Stephen Baldwin in East Hampton, New York, on Monday.

The front of the SUV was dented from the accident but the Baldwin brothers were unhurt. Police quickly arrived on the scene to help out the actors in the pouring rain.

The 67-year-old, who took to Instagram later on to briefly addressed what happened, looked shaken at the scene of the accident. At one point, he spoke to someone on the phone while having what appeared to be a heated arguement with police as they talked to his brother.

He was seen holding his phone in one hand while waving his other in the air looking agitated at the policeman and Stephen.

After the crash made headlines, Alec took to Instagram to briefly address what happened, saying he was forced to crash his wife’s car into a “big fat tree” to avoid a more serious accident.

“I just want to post a quick message,” he began his message to fans. “I got all these inquiries about my car thing this morning — I was in a car accident this morning. I’m fine.”

“My brother, Stephen, was out visiting me,” he added, saying they spent the weekend at the Hamptons International Film Festival.

He explained that a “garbage truck the size of a whale” cut him off on the road and “to avoid hitting him, I hit a tree,” he said.

The star added, “I hit a big, fat tree. And crushed my car — my wife’s car. I crashed my wife’s car. I feel bad about that. But it’s all fine, and I’m fine and my brother’s fine.”

Alec ended his message by thanking the East Hampton Police Department for “coming to my aid,” adding that he also filed a report with them.

“My wife’s car is pretty smashed up,” he said. “Pretty big tree, big fat tree.”

In his explanation video, Alec also took a moment shout out Hilaria and share how proud he was of her after she competed on Dancing With The Stars.

He said, “I’m still so proud of my wife. Hilaria, I love you more than anything, and I’m very proud of you.”

Fans took to the comment section of Alec’s Instagram video to express their relief that he was safe despite the crash.

One person commented, “Very happy to see you are fine. Glad as well that your brother is fine, too.”

Another fan added, “Glad you are ok and thankful your wife and kids weren’t in the car!” While a third wrote, “As long as you’re both ok!! Thank God for seatbelts !”

And someone else commented, “Damn you will probably be sore tomorrow. Glad you ok.”

The East Hampton Town Police Department said in their statement Tuesday, Oct. 14, that it responded to the accident just after noon the previous day.

“A white 2023 Range Rover, operated by Alec Baldwin, with passenger Stephen Baldwin, was found to have struck a tree on the Eastbound shoulder of the roadway while avoiding the turning action of a 2020 Mack commercial truck, registered to National Waste Services out of Bay Shore, NY,” read the statement.

The police statement noted there were no injuries or summons issues related to the accident.

It also added that “the contributing factors to the accident were found to be a reaction to an uninvolved vehicle and the slippery and wet roadway conditions.”
