There’s a heavy sadness hanging over the small town where Austin Metcalf lost his life, and now that Karmelo Anthony, the 17-year-old accused of st@bbing him, won’t be facing the d3ath p3nalty, the grief feels even sharper for Austin’s family. The news broke this week that, although Anthony has been formally indicted for first-degree m::rder in the fatal st@bbing that happened during a high school track meet on April 2, prosecutors won’t be seeking capital punishment. For Austin’s father, it’s a decision that’s hard to accept, no matter the legal reasons behind it.
Law enforcement sources told TMZ Sports that capital punishment isn’t an option here, not just because the state prosecutors aren’t pursuing it, but because Anthony’s age makes him ineligible for the d3ath p3nalty under current law. He’s 17—just a year shy of legal adulthood—and that single fact changes everything about how the justice system will handle his case. For some, it’s a technicality; for Austin’s father, it’s a bitter pill to swallow. He’s left grappling with the reality that the person accused of taking his son’s life could one day walk free, while his own family is left with a wound that will never fully heal.
The community is still reeling from the violence that shattered what should have been an ordinary spring afternoon at the local track. Friends and classmates are struggling to process the loss, and the courtroom drama that’s followed has only added to the pain. There’s no easy answer, no verdict or sentence that can bring Austin back or make sense of a tragedy like this. But as the legal process moves forward, all eyes are on the courtroom, and on a grieving family searching for justice in a world that suddenly feels very unfair. For now, all anyone can do is wait, hope for accountability, and try to find some measure of peace in the middle of heartbreak.
Victim’s Father Speaks Out On Legal Limits

Jeff Metcalf, Austin’s father, didn’t mince words when asked how he felt about the legal limit sparing Anthony from the d3ath p3nalty.
“I would have 100 percent supported it if he was 18,” Jeff told TMZ Sports. He paused when asked if he’d feel the same regardless of Anthony’s age. “Doesn’t matter what I think. Nothing will bring my son back.”
Under Texas law, individuals under 18 at the time of a crime cannot receive the d3ath p3nalty. That detail draws a hard legal line that Jeff believes cuts painfully close. “It’s the law unfortunately,” he said. “If it would have happened six weeks later, he would have been 18. Then it’s a different ball game. We have to play the cards we are dealt.”
Despite the emotional weight of the case, Jeff said he finds some relief in the progress. “I’m pleased the case is moving forward,” he added.
If convicted, Anthony now faces life in prison. His defense attorney, Mike Howard, addressed the indictment in a video statement Tuesday. Howard claimed the teen acted in self-defense and expressed confidence that the jury would ultimately “reach the right conclusion and justice will be done.”
The case, which rocked the Texas high school sports community, continues to draw close attention as it moves through the court system. Both families, one seeking justice, the other fighting for freedom, now await what comes next.
Angel Reese (Photo by Andy Lyons/Getty Images)
LSU Tigers star Angel Resse has been making a lot of headlines after her match against the Iowa Hawkeyes. Reese has a unique fashion for her matches, she wears leggings on only one of her legs and she recently revealed the secret of doing so.
Reese lost her recent game against the Iowa Hawkeyes which left the fans wondering if she would continue with LSU or declare for the WNBA draft. Those questions have also been answered by Reese in her recent collaboration with Vogue.
Why does Angel Reese wear one legging attire?
Angel Reese wears only one legging as a part of her one-court attire and the fans have grown curious about it. Many people speculated that it was part of a superstition that Reese followed, however, that is not the case. The LSU star has herself revealed the reason for the unique dressing choice and it may surprise a lot of people.
“I had surgery two years back on my shin. I have a rod in my leg… I cover the scar on one, and then the two players that I admire, Te’a Cooper and A’ja Wilson, also wear it, too. So it is swag. But I have used it to cover my scar,” said Angel Reese. She revealed that she had surgery on her leg and had a scar on it. She wears the leggings to hide that scar and at the same time as a swag fashion accessory.
Angel Reese declares for WNBA draft with Vogue photoshoot
After the Tigers failed to stand up against Caitlin Clark and the Hawkeyes the fans were left wondering if the LSU star Angel Reese would declare for the upcoming NBA draft. Reese has answered those questions with a beautiful photoshoot in collaboration with Vogue. Reese did a photo shoot with the brand and announced that she would be declaring for the WNBA draft.
Reese expressed her thoughts about the decision on her official X (formerly Twitter) account. “Making my announcement with VOGUE was ICONIC. In the new world that I am stepping into, just believe in me, trust in me, and give me time to learn and grow!” said Reese in the post. She thanked her supporters for their support and love and also asked them to trust her in her new journey.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield and his wife Emily have had to evacuate their home this week because of Hurricane Helene.
The hurricane hit northern Florida pretty hard, causing major flooding and power loss.
Mayfield, his wife Emily, their daughter, and their dog left their residence before the storm hit as a means of caution. Emily furnished her followers with an update on Friday.
“Baker, Koko, Fergus and I evacuated yesterday and are safe,” she said via Instagram. “Our sweet, sweet community got pummeled, but even that doesn’t compare to the people up North who took this storm head on. It’s unfathomable.”
Emily is grateful that Helene did not affect the Mayfield home but revealed she was “praying nonstop” for the people dealing with the impact while also offering tangible assistance.
“I am looking for ways to get out and tangibly help,” she added. “Please send me anything you find, and I will share the good ones.”
