Bachelorette Star Nears Cancer Diagnosis ‘Anniversary’

Katie Thurston joined The Bachelor thinking it would help her find her husband and change her life. She didn’t find her husband on the reality show, but the experience definitely changed her life. She was named The Bachelorette after striking out with Matt James. Her next few relationships made major headlines.

The reality star eventually found love in DMs with comedian Jeff Arcuri. They got engaged in the summer of 2024, but little did they know that Katie’s life was about to change again. In February 2025, she found out that she had breast cancer after finding a lump in her breast. She’s been battling the disease ever since. As she approaches her one-year cancerversary, she shared new details about the fight of her life.

She’s Candid About How It Affects Her Intimate Life With Husband

Despite her diagnosis, or because of it, Katie Thurston and Jeff Arcuri didn’t wait to marry. They eloped in March. His comedy tour has taken him out of the country several times, leaving Katie Thurston alone in New York City. She moved there from San Diego, California, right before she found out she had cancer.

But when he’s in the U.S., the comedian stays close to his wife’s side to support her. Katie Thurston has candidly admitted that the side effects of the cancer medication and early menopause have changed their s*x life. She teamed up with Midi Health. The virtual clinic provides treatment options to women going through perimenopause and menopause. 

In a social media post, the former Bachelorette shared that the clinic gave her three recommendations: “Estradiol (requires a prescription which they can assist with), over the counter moisturizer (especially something with hyaluronic acid), and vaginal dilators.” In a new cancer update, she briefly mentioned that the recommendations have helped her intimate life. But she also shared a more painful update.

Katie Thurston Shares Painful Cancer Update

Katie Thurston was initially scheduled for chemotherapy. But her doctors changed course and opted for oral medications and a monthly injection to block hormones. The reality star’s scans in the last few months have been hopeful, but she has to take the medication forever. However, there’s always a chance of the side effects becoming too much, forcing her to quit certain medications. That increases the risk of the cancer spreading.

In a candid post to the Boobie Broadcast Instagram she created to update fans, she revealed she started her first injection of Lupron. “Emotionally a mess. Physically in pain,” she wrote. She shared that the injection site was painful, but the medication also caused stiffness in her joints. Katie Thurston and her husband had to cut a walk around NYC short due to her pain.

She also revealed that she’s been feeling under the weather, but the X-rays haven’t shown signs of pneumonia. While the Lupron caused pain, the update was overall hopeful. Katie Thurston is doing her best to fight a difficult battle while keeping her spirits high.
