2026 has not been kind to Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic. After months of speculation about his relationship with fiancée Anamaria Goltes, the 27-year-old broke the news that the couple is no longer engaged. And they are in the midst of a custody battle for their two young daughters.

Doncic has been a recipient of a smear campaign from multiple people lately. But those are due to his on-court performance in LA. This time, though, he’s fighting to establish visitation rights for his kids, whom he hasn’t seen since December. In a bombshell report from ESPN, Luka Doncic released a statement about ending his engagement with Goltes.

“I love my daughters more than anything, and I’ve been doing everything I can for them to be with me in the U.S. during the season, but that hasn’t been possible, so I recently made the tough decision to end my engagement,” Doncic said in a statement provided to ESPN.

“Everything I do is for my daughters’ happiness, and I will always fight to be with them and give them the best life I can,” he added.

This was an unexpected turnaround for Goltes and Doncic’s relationship. The two were engaged in 2023. The biggest hurdle right now is that Luka is based in Los Angeles, while Goltes and their daughters have been in Slovenia since last year.

In an additional report, when Doncic came home to Slovenia to witness the birth of his second daughter, Goltes called the police to the hospital due to a disagreement. The police came and went without filing charges. And Luka’s troubles did not end there.

He has now learned that his ex-fiancée has filed a petition for child support for their two minor children. The silver lining is that Goltes only filed for child support and attorney’s fees. It did not include custody orders.
