Another life cut short by tragic circumstances.
The basketball community is mourning the loss of Victor Valley College player Jhenéy Wallace following a tragic crash in Southern California.
Wallace, 20, died Wednesday when a Hyundai Veloster rolled down an 80-foot embankment along Interstate 15 in the Cajon Pass.
The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office identified the Victorville native, who was also known as Jhenéy Harris, as the victim. Authorities pronounced her dead at the scene.
According to local reports, Wallace was a passenger in the vehicle. The driver and another passenger, identified as Wallace’s friend and the friend’s mother, suffered critical injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital. One was airlifted while the other was rescued up the embankment before being taken by ambulance.

Wallace had just completed her freshman season at Victor Valley College, where she appeared in 24 games during the 2025-26 campaign. She hoped to continue developing her game and eventually reach the WNBA.
Her mother, Tamara Wallace, remembered her daughter during an emotional interview with KTLA.
“She was a great daughter,” she said. “She was my best friend, my first-born. Always kept me smiling and encouraged me to do things. She was the best sister to her little sister and brother, very bubbly, always happy and loving.”
KTLA reports that “Jhenéy’s mother, Tamara Wallace, said they were calling her daughter’s cell phone and she wasn’t picking up. Eventually, an officer picked up the phone and told them about the crash.”
Victor Valley College’s women’s basketball team also honored Wallace in a heartfelt Instagram tribute, calling her “more than a teammate” and saying her impact on the program would never be forgotten.
A GoFundMe created to assist with funeral expenses has already surpassed its $15,000 goal. Wallace’s family thanked supporters for the outpouring of love and prayers.
The crash occurred on the Cajon Pass section of Interstate 15, a mountainous stretch of highway known for steep grades, heavy traffic and serious accidents. Investigators have not yet released the cause of the rollover crash.
