Former NBA forward Paul Pierce was arr3sted earlier this week, according to claims from California law enforcement.
The Boston Celtics icon and Basketball Hall of Famer was reportedly taken into police custody late Tuesday on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI in Los Angeles.
The California Highway Patrol said the 10-time NBA All-Star was found asleep behind the wheel of his SUV at 10:30 PM on the freeway after they responded to a crash involving multiple vehicles on the northbound side of a San Fernando Valley road.
Lanes were closed so the wreck could be investigated, but once they reopened, CHP personnel observed a stationary Range Rover in the traffic lanes south of the scene.
When the vehicle was approached, Pierce was seen asleep at the wheel. The former NBA superstar showed signs of impairment.
“When officers approached, they found the driver, later identified as Paul Pierce, asleep at the wheel,” the CHP noted in a statement. “Officers noted signs of alcohol impairment and conducted a DUI investigation.”

Pierce was arr3sted on suspicion of DUI, with the case to be reviewed by the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office.
The former player, who once went viral for farting on Michelle Beadle on live TV, was released after being charged, according to NBC 4.
Paul Pierce was drafted as the 10th overall pick out of Kansas by the Boston Celtics in 1998, played in the NBA for 19 years. He helped the team win a championship in 2008 and was the Finals MVP in the 4-2 series against the Los Angeles Lakers.
He transitioned to media after retiring, but was let go by ESPN after posting a video showing him among strippers several years ago.
Fans called for him to be fired after a move to FOX, which eventually materialized after ‘Speak’ was taken off the air earlier this year.
