During a game over the weekend, the Chicago Sky guard committed a hard Flagrant 2 foul on Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham. She struck on across the face and neck area as Cunningham was midair attempting a fast-break breakaway layup.
The physical altercation escalated when Cunningham tried to attack her. Following an official review, the referees upgraded the penalty to a Flagrant 2 and ejected Carrington. Minutes after being ejected, Carrington posted “WHITE PRIVILEGE” in all caps on her Threads social media account and tagged the Indiana Fever.
That took the situation to an even higher level. This sparked massive public and political debate, given the two players’ contrasting identities.
She was fined for her actions on the court. Now, DiJonai Carrington may be facing another one.
WNBA to Fine DiJonai Carrington Again After Sky Game

An intense matchup against the Golden State Valkyries has placed Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington back under league scrutiny. The energetic defender recently incurred another fine following an emotional outburst directed at game referees.
This time, she was hit with a technical foul. Carrington complained to the referee over what she believed was a no-call. This would mark her second technical foul of the season, which means she will have to pay a $500 fine.
Per league rules, the first three technical fouls for a player each carry a $500 fine. The latest on-court infraction marks a highly frustrating stretch of games for the competitive professional athlete.
Once a player reaches eight techs, they receive a $1,500 fine and a one-game suspension.
