The second season of The Golden Bachelor didn’t get off to a great start. Former NFL player Mel Owens made problematic comments about women’s ages before the show even started. But the executives are reportedly happy after the season finale had a storybook ending to an extremely difficult season.
Peg Munson Demands Prenup After Gerry Turner & Theresa Nist Drama
After initially saying on a podcast that his dating age range was 45 to 60, Mel Owens backtracked after major backlash. The premiere of The Golden Bachelor is to give the older generation a chance at finding love again later in life. The cast of 23 women for Season 2 of the spinoff was in the range of 58 to 77.

After weeks of sending women home, Mel Owens has two choices left. Peg Munson, 62, or Cindy Angelcyk Cullers, 60. During a recent date with Mel, Peg made it clear about what she expects if they have a future together. The retired firefighter from Las Vegas, Nevada, demanded that they get a prenup if he chooses her and they marry.
Her demand for a prenup comes at an interesting time. The first Golden Bachelor, Gerry Turner, just released a tell-all book about his short-lived marriage to his final rose winner, Theresa Nist. The couple tied the knot in January but filed for divorce three months later.
Golden Bachelor Execs Happy, Mel Owens’ Finale Is A Storybook Ending
Last week’s episode of The Golden Bachelor ended on a cliffhanger with Cindy confronting Mel about whether he truly wants to get married again. Us Weekly shared the details on an exclusive clip they watched of the season finale. The finale airs on Wednesday, November 12.

According to the outlet, Mel Owens tells Cindy that he is ready to marry again, but was still unsure who to choose. “I love spending time with you. I love being with you. You’re sharing, caring, smart, but it’s a difficult situation. I am torn between you and Peg,” the lawyer said to Cindy.
But being torn between the final two makes every Bachelor Nation season finale the “most dramatic ever.” Sources previously spilled to The U.S. Sun that Mel Owens does make a choice. He’s reportedly happily engaged and planning a wedding.
Mel Owens was “more difficult in the beginning which is why everyone had doubts but he really did allow himself to be vulnerable to the process,” the source said.
They added, “And because of that, he had a storybook ending, and producers are elated with the outcome.” Mel Owens apparently redeems himself for his ageist comments before ever meeting the women cast on the show.
Tune in to ABC on Wednesday, November 12, at 8 PM Eastern for the season finale and After the Final Rose special.
